Daan Roosegaarde - Dune
(2006)
Future Great Daan Roosegaarde is an artist, architect, technologist, researcher and frequent flyer. He creates interactive landscapes that respond intuitively to sound and motion. Well-known projects include the energy-generating floor he designed for Club Watt in Rotterdam. The works of art produced by Studio Roosegaarde are a dynamic fusion of architecture, people and e-culture. Sculptures including Dune, Liquid Space, Flow and Intimacy form tactile high tech environments in which the viewer and the space become one. This link between design and content is what Roosegaarde calls “techno poetry.”
Roosegaarde is a leader in the innovative art movement known as New Dutch Digital Design, a group of artists who explore the boundary between humans and computers. Technology is often relegated to the background to the point where it is invisible, which in turn revives the very magic of it. Studio Roosegaarde has expanded considerably in recent years, with studios in the Netherlands and Shanghai. The recently published Interactive Landscapes (NAi Publishers), which will be presented during STRP Festival, includes a complete survey of Roosegaarde’s projects to date.
In the expo, you can enjoy some of Roosegaarde’s earliest works as well as his latest, Dune, an interactive dunescape comprising hundreds of LED lights, and the premier of Intimacy 2.0. Given the fact that Dune has travelled to so many different places, including the Tate Modern in London, Hong Kong and Beijing, the installation will be shown inside a shipping container. In transit, just like Daan Roosegaarde.
