Abstract bass and ambient soundscapes. Spatially, compelling, sometimes melancholic, always with beauty in his darkness. Kangding Ray is the stage name of Frenchman David Letellier who lives and works in Berlin. He studied architecture, began his musical career with electronic experimentation and flowed steadily to become a dj in the best techno clubs, which he fills with precise sound constructions.
His releases on the label Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts show exactly his width. Raster-Noton, the main label for experiment, has developed itself from an abstract, academic approach to a trendsetter of the sound of now. Stroboscopic Artefacts, one of the leading labels at the moment, mixes the broken experiment of Warp with double dub-depth and embraces the spaciousness of Basic Channel.
