Mbo Inspiration Day

In collaboration with SintLucas & LKCA

On Friday April 3th, STRP hosts an inspiring afternoon for teachers, together with SintLucas; vocational school for creative talent.

For whom?

During this afternoon, (subject) teachers, coordinators, management, supervisors and anyone interested in working in or with a senior secondary vocational school can be inspired and meet teachers from other study programs or schools.

What?

Together with us and (new found) colleagues, you will visit STRP Festival, where you develop and reflect upon new scenarios for the future.

What does a future look like in which humans are no longer decisive about life on earth? How do we relate to nature, technology, objects and systems? And what does this mean for our world now, here, today?

The program ends with drinks and networking organised in collaboration with LKCA.

Notes on our selection program

During our afternoon of inspiration you may choose from the following 3 activities:

Choice 1

Saskia van den Muijsenberg is the only certified biomimicry professional in the Netherlands so far. As a co-founder and director of biomimicryNL, van den Muijsenberg knows better than anyone how the science, or art, of imitating nature can be helpful to improve and make products, processes, and systems more sustainable.

In addition to the plenary opening, Saskia will give a presentation about her work, by showing how innovation can make use of proven designs and processes from nature in order to be able to solve problems on a more human scale. Often these nature-inspired solutions are much more sustainable than conventional innovations: wind turbines inspired by whales, anti-bacterial surfaces inspired by seaweed and self-organizing systems inspired by bee collaboration; they are all examples of biomimicry; design based on nature. In this presentation, Van den Muijsenberg explains how you can apply biomimicry in education: How does this design philosophy and innovation method work, how do you do it and what difference can you make with it?

Choice 2

As one of the winners of the ACT Award 2020, Nonhuman Nonsense’s work "Planetary Personality: Martian Matters" can be seen at STRP EXPO during STRP Festival. With this work, the research-driven designer duo proposes to make planet Mars a person, with their own dreams, wishes and rights. This way, the duo explores boundaries between art, science, technology and philosophy and proposes new ways of dealing differently with our solidarity towards fellow entities; from planet to rock. The fabulous scenarios that result from this often lie between utopia and dystopia: by challenging existing power structures they create space for "new", different beings besides humans.

In this workshop, Nonhuman Nonsense outlines and discusses the processes and methods of their speculative design practice: participants explore different ways to make way for non-human stories and perspectives by learning to respect different ways of being.

Choice 3

An area of rainforest the size of over a thousand football fields, kilos of CO2 and countless fossil fuels – this is what a day of ‘modern man of Earth’ costs our planet. Year after year, the influence of humans on the climate has been confirmed by scientists all over the world. And with every new dent we make in the composition of the atmosphere, new disaster scenarios arise.

It is perfectly clear that we have made a right mess of things. Why then are we unable to – now really – do something about the climate crisis? Have we become numb to what is happening to the world around us? Or is there talk of a crisis of imagination?

In FOREST, a theatrical game by theatre-maker Emke Idema, you place yourself in a world in which our human role as a world leader is by no means taken for granted. In groups of 10, you design a new world order in which the way that humans and plants co-exist is questioned and tested. While playing, you learn to imagine a new society in which humans and trees exist inequality side by side, and you discover just what can change if we see things from the perspective of a plant.

ATTENTION The selection program sessions have different limited capacities. You make your choice at the start of the program.
