LoveSick

Heather Dewey-Hagborg

Now that collecting DNA is becoming easier and cheaper by the day, sensitive medical information is literally on the street. The consequences of this have been critically approached by Dewey-Hagborg (UK) in various high-profile pieces. She changes the perspective for STRP and researches how the developments within bio-technology have a positive influence on people and society.

What if love could spread like a virus?
With her newest project LoveSick, she develops, in collaboration with scientists who are specialised in discovering antibodies, a modified retrovirus. This virus infects the host with a gene that increases the levels of production of the love hormone oxytocin. The work is intended as an activist intervention, to spread affection and attachment and to counter the alienation and disconnection we experience today. Surely the world could use a little more love?

LoveSick is a STRP co-production in collaboration with Abandon Normal Devices. In the context of New Network Normal.

This program presents STRP as part of the European collaboration project The New Networked Normal (NNN). NNN brings together five leading organisations in the field of contemporary media arts from across Europe, led by Abandon Normal Devices (UK) with D-I-N-A (ES), Kulturprojekte (DE), Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (ES) and STRP (NL).

Together this partnership will address critical issues through an innovative public programme of digital co-productions, pop-up exhibitions, discursive events, hands-on workshops and online activities

This project has been co-funded with support from the Creative Europe programme.
