New Scenarios for Museums

Dialogue Chris Sigaloff, Dave Colangelo & Mathieu Viau-Courville

Unpacking ideas for a design museum that should not be a museum

Chaired by Mathieu Viau-Courville, leader ‘Museums and Creative Societies’ research track, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Creative Economy.

Plans for a Museum for Technology or a Rijksmuseum for Design have been circulating in Eindhoven for many years. In the spring of 2019 all stars suddenly stand well: the minister feels for a design museum, a budget is reserved from the government and the new Evoluon is a possible suitable location. But what is actually a museum now and in the future?

In this session we conduct an open discussion with all those involved and interested parties.

With the collaboration of Dave Colangelo (Artist, researcher and Director of Media Architecture Institute), Chris Sigaloff (Quarterman Design Museum Eindhoven), Mathieu Viau-Courville (Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Creative Economy).

Dave Colangelo is an artist, educator, and researcher based in Toronto, Canada. He is a founding member of Public Visualization Studio. He is currently Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Bachelor of Digital Experience Design program in the in the School of Design at George Brown College, and Director of the Media Architecture Institute

Chris Sigaloff is a longtime social innovator fascinated by our society’s transitions. Her primary focus is on putting innovative ideas into action and to find new approaches, strategies and (design) interventions for complex social problems. For the last 10 years she was the director of Kennisland, a think tank for social innovation, where she developed many innovative programmes, methods and startups. Currently she is investigating the possibilities for a new 'designmuseum/futurelab' for the city of Eindhoven.
