Closing keynote: The Art of Listening

Miriam Rasch

Location: STRP Stage
Language: English
Free entrance with a STRP Expo ticket

Essayist and philosopher Miriam Rasch thinks it's time for ethics of listening. In Western philosophy, the search for knowledge and truth is strongly linked to seeing: we must first see, then believe. What does it mean to really listen to each other? How can we listen with our whole body, to non-human animals, plants or ecosystems? What does an oral culture sound like? And what is the sound of silence?

Miriam Rasch writes for various media in the Netherlands and abroad about literature, ethics, technology and life in post-digital times. Her book Friction: Ethics in the Age of Dataism (in Dutch) was awarded the 2021 Socrates Cup for best philosophical work. She is currently researching and writing a book on the ethics of listening. During STRP Festival 2023 she will be all ears, and reflect on her experiences and share a personal interpretation about the art of listening on the last day.
