In the interactive installation The Environmentalist Stock Exchange, ecosystems are publicly traded and owned by stock market players. In collaboration with ecologists and environmental economists, design duo Cream on Chrome integrates crucial data on the state of the biosphere into the calculation of the 'true ecological value' of a stock market asset. Incorporating eco data into the world of finance and investment will promote ecological processes as the main engine of the global economy. Growth is therefore not only financial, but also organic. Investors will receive profit distributions: the better an ecosystem performs, the more profit. This exchange (or entanglement) makes investors literally “invested” in the well-being of ant colonies, the Alps, rivers and urban fauna. As a festival visitor, you can place investments yourself, while the figures are continuously updated in real time. Charts give you hints of investment opportunities and places where stocks are undervalued or overvalued. Which species or geographic regions need a financial boost? Come and find out for yourself!
