STRP Scenarios - Maisa Imamović

The panel discussion 'The Power(lessnes) of Websites' will focus on a website as the dominant component of what comprises a hybrid artwork. If an artwork, intended for onsite experience, loses its physical importance when represented online in the form of a website, what power does its online presence have? What power does it lack? What role does such a website play? Is it merely a translation or documentation, or does it serve as an agent in rerouting the traffic to irl?

Featuring projects by Pablo Somonte Ruano, Carrie Chen, Ling Tan, Sara Culmann, and Bianca Carague. In discussion with Pablo Somonte Ruano, Sara Culmann, and Bianca Carague.

Music night BREEK is a pop-up art club. Interactive, immersive artworks are presented at BREEK events, supported by a program filled with electronic musical performances by live synth acts and DJs.

BREEK aims to introduce young curious futurists to art and music in an accessible and alternative way, in order to stimulate them to see the world from a different perspective. For its collaboration with STRP Festival, BREEK presents a variety of styles and a mix of emerging local talent with more established names. BREEK maintains a well balanced diversity between the identities of the acts. Expect a mix of both DJs and live (synthesiser) performances where artists are creatively left completely free to play what they want.

Sons and true sons
Total Refusal - Sons and True Sons

This is a live gaming lecture in which the connections between toxic masculinity, meritocracy, and the Storming of the US-Capitol in 2021 will be explored.‘Sons and True Sons’ illuminates how the narrative of the video game ‘Tom Clancy's: The Division 2’ (Ubisoft, 2019) inadvertently anticipated the events on January 6th 2021, as well as an examination of Steve Bannon's strategic engagement with male gamers. The parallels between the game's depiction of the civilian militia (“True Sons”) taking control of the Capitol in a digital Washington, D.C., and paramilitary crypto fascist groups (“Proud Boys” or "Oath Keepers") are indeed remarkable.

Inspired by these uncanny similarities, the live gaming lecture re-storms the Capitol, exploring the narrative decay of liberal democracy on the example of mass media culture. In the lecture, the border between hyper masculine self-empowerment both inside and outside gaming spaces will be further blurred.

You can visit the live gaming lecture with your festival ticket on Saturday April 13th 15:30-17:00. Get your festival ticket here.
