For STRP Festival 2022, Residency for the People teams up with STRP for a residency around this year's theme The end of infinity. Hence, this residency project evolves around the ‘all you can eat’ culture of nowadays. Do you wonder sometimes (like we do): Is this is what the world needs?
All you can('t) eat― The Frik Show
Camille Pelissou
In December 2021, the Dutch government announced a 25 billion euros plan to reduce the number of livestock in the country by a third. This decision came as a consequence of the country's struggle to contain an overload of animal manure which is responsible for a dangerous increase of nitrogen levels in the air. From the farmers' perspective, this measure poses a major issue: how will they be able to sustain themselves when a third of their livestock is being taken away from them? The Frik Show offers farmers the possibility to repurpose low-valued parts like ears, feet, hearts and tails into delicious handcrafted frikandels. This way, it allows farmers to reclaim economical value and invites consumers to rethink their eating habits as well as meat overconsumption.
Camille Pelissou
As a design researcher with a passion for food, Camille Pelissou (FR) is interested in pointing out food controversies and imagining alternative future food scenarios. Her practice gravitates around material research, the revival of traditional crafts & techniques and storytelling. She draws her inspiration from farming practices and local savoir-faire. Whether it's around a food stall or a performative cooking show, Pelissou curates experiences that bring people together and raise questions about our current food production systems and ways to escape it.
