Discover this year’s STRP Festival Specials!

In one week STRP Festival 2023 will open its doors especially for you in Microstad, the Heuvel and the Catharinakerk, in the center of Eindhoven.

Besides the continuous Expo, 14 works that can be visited for 4 days at all locations, and the three in-depth STRP Scenarios, the program is complemented by several Specials that will take place live during the festival and can be visited with a regular Expo ticket. In this article the specials are highlighted, for you to get prepared for your visit to STRP.

STRP Frequencies

New to the festival program this year is STRP Frequencies. For four days, live radio will be made from the Hanghout on the ground floor of Microstad and broadcast on location and via strp.nl. Various radio makers, artists and DJs will explore the art of listening through the radio channel. Read more here.

Open Field

On Saturday night, a music and performance night curated by sound practitioner Loma Doom will take place for all visitors with a STRP Expo wristband. The night explores (re)new(d) ways of listening and sonic action, giving stage to live performances, immersive visual art and left field DJ sets. Read more here.

Artist talks

During the Artist talks, artists from the Expo, the Scenario program or the music program will talk about their work, their motivations and their take on the theme The Art of Listening. Engage in conversations or listen calmly to these short but in-depth talks along with the artists. The talks will take place in the Hangout, on the first floor of Microstad. The schedule of talks can be found on the program page or in the timetable.

Workshops

On Saturday afternoon, you can participate in 'Exploring the Limits of Silence'. Here you will explore the changing meaning of sound and silence in the 21st century. Read more here.

On Sunday, you can participate in a free Deep Listening workshop where you will learn about the origins and legacy of Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening® embodied practice and philosophy. Read more here.

Performances

On Friday afternoon, MAOTIK and Maarten Vos will give a music performance along with their 14-meter-wide installation in the basement of Microstad. At various moments on Sunday, Shock Forest Group will present interventions to showcase their findings, conclusions and additional questions about the weekend as part of their work.

Misophonic Orchestra & Bar at Residency For The People

During the festival, Misophonic Orchestra brings intimate eating sounds to the stage, exploring their emotional potential through performance and the perspective of misophonia.

Misophonic Orchestra takes place in - and is shaped by - Residency For The People. Both before and after the performances, which take place on Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 9:30 p.m., Residency For The People will open its doors as a bar for all STRP visitors to meet after the festival.

Closing Keynote by Miriam Rasch

During the festival, essayist and philosopher Miriam Rasch will lend her ears to the final day to reflect on her experiences and share a personal interpretation on The Art of Listening. This closing keynote will take place on Sunday at 16:00 on the STRP Stage in Microstad. Read more here.
